The Philippines is one of ASEAN’s founding members, having played a vital role in advancing regional cooperation since the Association’s establishment in 1967. As ASEAN’s Chairmanship rotates among its Member States, the Philippines has also taken on the responsibility of leading the region, most recently in 2017 during ASEAN’s 50th anniversary.

The Chairmanship rotates annually among its Member States, following the alphabetical order of the English names of the countries. The country holding the Chairmanship leads ASEAN meetings and helps set the organization’s priorities and agenda for the year.

Through CHED Regional Office I’s Project LINK, CHED RO1 supports higher education institutions in building meaningful linkages and partnerships that connect Region I’s HEIs to opportunities beyond borders—strengthening their capacity to participate in the wider ASEAN and global higher education community. 🤝🌏
