Laoag City, Ilocos Norte โ The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office I (CHED RO1), in coordination with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and Local Government of Laoag City, conducted a Scholarship Information Caravan on August 6, 2026 at SM Laoag City.
PCA gathered the local farmers and their families within Laoag City to promote higher education accessibility and equip agricultural communities with full knowledge on the different scholarship programs offered by CHED.
The caravan started with messages from Hon. James Bryan Q. Alcid, City Mayor ; Hon. Rey Carlos M. Fariรฑas, City Vice Mayor; and Engr. Sheila Marie N. Opelac, City Agriculturist.
Moreover, Engr. Rose Anne Cabalaon, Area Coordinator of Ilocos Norte / Agriculturist II, delivered a message on behalf of the Regional Manager III of PCA wherein she highlighted the coconut farming situation in the province.
Dr. Cherrie Melanie Acheta-Diego CESO III, CHED RO1 Regional Director, led the gathering and highlighted the ACHIEVE agenda of the Commission.
She emphasized that the activity strengthens CHED’s information dissemination efforts by bringing scholarship opportunities closer to coconut farmers and their families and helping that will ensure that more members of the agricultural sector become informed of the educational assistance available to them.
During the session, Ms. Catherine C. Chan, Education Supervisor II, presented the application mechanics, guidelines, and procedures for various CHED ROI programs, including the Coconut Scholarship (CoScho), CHED Merit Scholarship Program (CMSP), Expanding Access to Scholarships for Equity Groups(EASE), Allied Health Experiential Assistance for Deserving Students (AHEAD), Agricultural Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (ACEF), Bagong Pilipinas Merit Scholarship Program (BPMSP), and Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES).
Mr. Bon Louis Lozano, PCA Agriculturist II, also presented the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan programs.
Through this outreach, CHED ROI reinforced its commitment to empowering coconut farming families through quality tertiary education and lifelong learning opportunities.
