𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗗 𝗥𝗢𝟭, 𝗢𝗖𝗗-𝟭 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵, 𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗔𝗚𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗔𝗠 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲

The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office I (CHED RO1) in partnership with the Office of Civil Defense Region I (OCD-1), conducted a series of Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CBDRRM) Trainings from April to June 2026 for participants from higher education institutions (HEIs) and youth organizations across the four provinces of Region I.

The training series equipped participants with practical knowledge, skills, and appropriate attitudes to help promote and implement disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) measures in their respective schools and communities.

Based on the consolidated training data, the AGent for RIsk and DAmage Management (AGRIDAM) Project CBDRRM activities reached 426 student participants and 72 DRRM focal persons, or 498 participants overall, across Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan.

In Ilocos Norte, four training batches were conducted from April 5–11, 2026; Ilocos Sur followed with four groups from May 3–9; La Union conducted four sets from May 24–30; and Pangasinan conducted three clusters from May 31 to June 6, 2026.

The participants were introduced to community-based DRRM approaches applicable before, during, and after disasters, with emphasis on preparedness, risk assessment, early warning systems, community mobilization, and coordinated response.

OCD Region I personnel and DRRM practitioners from partner agencies and local government units, including LGUs from various municipalities in Region 1, facilitated the trainings.

For CHED Region I, the partnership with OCD-I under AGRIDAM underscores the Commission’s commitment to making higher education institutions active partners in building safe, prepared, resilient, and empowered communities.

CHED Region I and OCD Region I remain committed to advancing AGRIDAM as a platform for empowering the academic and youth sectors to become proactive partners in disaster preparedness, risk reduction, and community resilience.
