𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗗 𝗥𝗢𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗨𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗴’𝘀 𝗦𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗕 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁

The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office I marked its presence at the 1st SIRIB (Scholarly Innovation and Research for Interdisciplinary Breakthroughs) Research Colloquium of the College of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Pangasinan, held last February 20, 2026 in Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

The event carried the theme “Bridging Disciplines, Building Breakthroughs through Research and Innovation” and gathered administrators, faculty members, and students from the University of Pangasinan and Phinma UPang College Urdaneta.

Engr. Leonora Quarte, Educational Supervisor II, attended the colloquium and gave the keynote speech underscoring the Commission’s commitment to advancing research culture and fostering innovation across disciplines.

The presence of CHED highlighted the importance of aligning institutional research initiatives with national development goals, resonating Harmonized SDG-Based Research and Innovation of CHED’s ACHIEVE Agenda, particularly in engineering and architecture—fields that play a vital role in infrastructure, sustainability, and technological advancement.

The colloquium featured three breakout rooms for research presentations, with ten research presentations in each room.

These researches were carefully screened from a total of 131 submitted research papers from the two participating institutions, reflecting the depth of scholarly engagement and the rigorous selection process.

The researches were clustered according to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) being addressed: the first breakout room was assigned for studies aligned with SDGs 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy); the second breakout room focused on SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure); while the third breakout room highlighted researches addressing SDGs 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and 13 (Climate Action).

There were also 27 research posters showcased, giving students another avenue to share innovative ideas and contributions in engineering and architecture.

The colloquium was made possible through the concerted efforts of Archt. Jeffrey Dela Cruz, who organized the event, Engr. Delaney Ofrecio, Dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture and Dr. Gladys Navarro, Graduate School Dean.

The event culminated with the awarding of certificates of recognition for the Best Poster, Best Research Paper, and Best Research Presenter—highlighting academic excellence, advancing innovation, and encouraging future breakthroughs.

The colloquium served as a platform for students to present innovative studies, exchange ideas, and strengthen collaboration between disciplines.

It also reaffirmed the role of research as a cornerstone of academic excellence and holistic development, echoing CHED’s vision of nurturing human capital and promoting breakthroughs that contribute to nation-building.
