𝐃𝐌𝐖 𝐑𝟏, 𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃 𝐑𝐎𝟏 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐎𝐅𝐖𝐬
𝑨𝒏𝒕𝒊-𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒂𝒍 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒓𝒖𝒊𝒕𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕, 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒔 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔

Officials of the Department of Migrant Workers Region 1 (DMW-R1) visited the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office 1 (CHED RO1) for a coordination meeting aimed at exploring collaborative projects that would benefit Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and students held in San Fernando City, La Union on March 3, 2026.

DMW-R1 Regional Director Christian Rey Sison presented three proposed areas of collaboration to Dr. Cherrie Melanie Ancheta-Diego, Director IV of CHED RO1.

The major area is the strengthening of the Anti-Illegal Recruitment and Trafficking in Persons (AIRTIP) Campaign.

Dir. Sison proposed integrating the AIRTIP campaign into CHED’s career guidance initiatives and, where feasible, incorporating it into the curriculum of higher education institutions (HEIs) across Region I.

The initiative seeks to provide students and communities with vital information on safe and responsible migration practices, the prevention of illegal recruitment, and protection against trafficking in persons.

Through the proposed partnership, Dir. Sison hopes to equip students and future professionals with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions about overseas employment opportunities.

Aside from the AIRTIP campaign, the DMW-R1 also discussed opportunities for internship placements for students—particularly those taking up AB/BS Psychology—and potential collaboration in organizing job fairs.

Dr. Ancheta-Diego also proposed expanding the partnership to include lifelong learning opportunities for OFWs through programs such as the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP), Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL), and micro-credentials.

She emphasized that these initiatives could help OFWs upgrade their skills and academic qualifications.

Both agencies also agreed to engage more national government agencies and local government units to maximize the impact of the proposed projects and conduct the OFW Summit this year.

Also present from DMW-R1 were Mr. Romeo Jaramilla, Assistant Regional Director; Ms. Dionne Cleo M. Cruz, Supervising Labor and Employment Officer and Atty. Angelique Ugay, Attorney III.

From CHED RO1, officials present included Dr. Danilo Bose, Chief Education Program Specialist; Dr. Angelica Dolores, Supervising Education Program Specialist; Dr. Ricky Cera, Supervising Administrative Officer; and Dr. Al Gerald Barde, Education Supervisor II.
