The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office 1 (CHED RO1) participated in the 2nd Quarter 2026 Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on Thursday, June 18, 2026, as government agencies promote disaster preparedness to enhance workplace safety and response capabilities.
โThe simulation is more than just a drill,โ said CHED RO1 Director Dr. Cherrie Melanie Ancheta-Diego, CESO III. โIt also identifies the pain points in our existing emergency response and helps us identify gaps in preparedness to improve our readiness.โ
A total of 47 CHED RO1 employees executed the drill in 3 minutes and 12 seconds.
Dr. Myrelle Faith D. Mina, Education Supervisor II and Focal for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, facilitated the activity.
โWe emphasize the importance of preparedness not only as a compliance exercise, but as a critical practice that ensures our safety and resilience in the face of natural disasters,โ Dr. Mina said, adding that regular drills help strengthen coordination and improve response time.
The NSED follows the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Mindanao earlier this month.
