𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃𝐑𝐎𝟏, 𝐃𝐋𝐒-𝐂𝐒𝐁 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧

The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office I (CHEDRO1) successfully conducted the fourth installment of its Project CHANGE with the webinar “Global Pathways: An Information Session on Higher Education Internationalization with De La Salle-College of St. Benilde,” on July 10, 2026, gathering over 90 participants from more than 15 higher education institutions (HEIs) across the Ilocos Region.

The virtual information session was graced by Mr. Sherlo Reyes, Director for External Linkages, of DLS-CSB as he shared the institution’s internationalization journey and best practices.

CHEDRO1 Director Dr. Cherrie Melanie Ancheta-Diego, in her welcome remarks, underscored the vital role of internationalization in transforming higher education institutions into globally competitive and socially responsive organizations.

She encouraged HEIs to view internationalization not merely as compliance or international recognition, but as a strategic means of improving academic quality, fostering meaningful global partnerships, and creating lasting positive impacts on local communities.

Director Ancheta-Diego emphasized that the true measure of internationalization lies in the tangible outcomes achieved by institutions, particularly in expanding opportunities for students, faculty, and staff through global engagement.

Reaffirming CHED Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis’ ACHIEVE Agenda, Director Ancheta-Diego highlighted inclusive and impact-driven internationalization as a key pillar in elevating Philippine higher education while ensuring that its benefits are sustainable, equitable, and transformative for all.

During his presentation, Mr. Reyes highlighted DLS-CSB’s strategic approach to internationalization through student and faculty mobility programs, Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), international internships, global partnerships, transnational higher education initiatives, and inclusive internationalization programs that ensure global learning opportunities are accessible to all students, including those with disabilities and financial challenges.

He underscored that successful internationalization extends beyond rankings and numbers, stressing that its ultimate purpose is to prepare students to become globally competent, culturally aware, and socially responsible citizens.

“It’s not really more of rankings, it’s not really more of the number of internationalization initiatives to be implemented. The bottom line [is it’s] for the students,” he said in his closing remarks.
